Finally got a naked portafilter to diagnose my shots and wow, humbling. First pull it sprayed sideways so hard it hit the backsplash. Watched a few more and I get a jet off the left side almost every time while the right side barely moves. I’m dosing 18g in an 18g basket, grinding on a DF64, tamping level as far as I can tell. I don’t have a WDT tool yet, could clumping really be causing a one-sided spray like this? Or is my tamp crooked and I can’t feel it? Attaching a mental image of my ruined counter. What’s the first thing you’d change? Trying to fix one variable at a time like the guide says but I don’t know which variable to grab first.
